Animal adoption

The animal can be adopted by a person who has reached the age of 18 upon the presentation

of identity document and making a corresponding donation that would cover the medical expenses such as deworming, vaccination and sterilizing/castration.

The person is to provide adequate keeping for the animal in accordance to the legislation of Republic of Latvia.

No animal shall be given to a person under the influence of alcohol or drugs..

No animal shall be given to a person who, according to the information the shelter possessed, have broken sections 4 and 5 of the Animal Protection Act.

The shelter shall not entrust a dog to a person who plans on keeping it permanently chained.

The shelter does not recommend adopting animals to families that have children younger than 1.5 year old.

The shelter does not allow adopting puppies and kittens that are younger than 6 weeks old.

The shelter does not allow adopting puppies and kittens to a person that cannot provide adequate care for the animal. (feeding, walking, playing)

In case the animal has stayed in the shelter for less than 14 days, the shelter is obliged to inform the potential owned that it claims no responsibility for animals’ health.

The shelter does not provide any information regarding the animals to third parties, except in the cases where such information is required according to the legislation of Republic of Latvia.

The shelter reserves the right to receive information about the physical and mental health of the adopted animal and its adaptation to the new environment from the new owner. Moreover, the shelter reserves the right to visit the animal in its newly found home.

You can adopt an animal from the shelter by making a donation that would partially cover the medical expenses (sterilization/castration, vaccination, deworming) that occurred during the animal’s stay in the shelter – 20 Ls for an adult cat and about 30-35 Ls for an adult dog. The amount of donation does not depend on the breed of the animal and is not considered to be payment for the animal, but rather a donation to the shelter.
